About

Welcome to 5K On The Farm!

5K On The Farm will take place on Saturday, September 17 at Bangs Family Farms, located about 20 miles north of Inverness, MT. There will be a 1-Mile, 5K, 10K and Virtual Run events.

5K On The Farm is a unique race held on a northern Montana dryland farm and ranch. The course is run entirely on high-grade county maintained gravel roads at Bangs Family Farm and gives runners a view of farmland, ranch pastures, mountains, and prairies. Please visit the "Location" tab for more detailed information on the location of the farm, to view a map, and read directions.

Event Timeline:
Race day registration and packet pick up will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17. The 10K Race will begin at 10:00 a.m. while the 5K run/walk and 1 mile run/walk will be held concurrently, with both races beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the race will be awards and a grilled hamburger lunch, around 11:30 a.m.

Entry Fee:
Race fee for registration forms post-marked or  received before August 17, 2016 is $20.00 for 1-mile and 5K, and $30 for 10K. Race fee for registration forms post-marked or received between August 18 and September 4 will be $25.00/$35.00. Late registrations which come in after September 4, will be $30.00/$40.00.  Run/Walk will be held rain, snow or shine. No refunds will be given if run/walk is cancelled due to unsafe conditions, such as the unlikely event of a lightning storm or prairie fire. You can also sign up to participate in the Virtual Run (more info below) or simply make a donation. The Virtual Run follows the same pricing as the 1-mile and 5K events.  Please visit the "Sign Up!" tab to click the link that leads to online race registration through RunSignUp.

What You Get:
Each registered participant will receive a goody bag, race t-shirt, bib number, and a free lunch after the race! That's right--we're serving delicious grilled hamburgers featuring our own, home-raised beef, with drinks and sides after the race for all volunteers and participants! If you would like to purchase an extra lunch for your family member or friend, the cost is $5.00, and you can indicate the number of extra lunches you'd like to buy on your registration form.

Race Course:
The race course for both distances will be out-and-back routes on gravel roads. The 1 mile course will head east on Road 200 North for half a mile, then will turn around and return back to the driveway of Bangs Farms. The 1-mile route is very flat and fast. The 5K route will head north from the Bangs Farms driveway and is also relatively flat, but with some long, gradual hill terrain. The 5K will be marked at each mile and at the half-way turnaround point. There will be one water station on the 5K course, also located at the half-way turnaround. The 10K route is a hilly loop course that offers great views of farmland, pasture, the Sweetgrass Hills, and more. It is a challenging course, but has the best scenery. All courses are run on roads that are surrounded by Bangs farmland and pasture.

Virtual Run:
Of course, we'd love to see everyone we can in person on race day, but that is not always possible. If you'd like to participate on 5k On The Farm but can't actually make it to the farm on race day, Virtual Run is for you! For the same pricing structure as the 1-Mile and 5K events, you'll still receive a race t-shirt and a race bib. They'll be mailed to you. Then you can run or walk your chosen distance wherever you'd like that's convenient to you! This is a great way to be involved for those of you who may live very far away. There is a deadline of September 11, 2016 to sign up for Virtual Race. This is so that we can make sure to get your t-shirt and bib mailed to you before September 17. Visit the Sign Up tab to print a PDF Registration Form you can mail in and check the "Virtual Run" box. OR, click over to the RunSignUp link to register online for the race. We will again plan to do a photo contest for our Virtual Run participants.

Awards:
Awards will be given to the First, Second, and Third place Male and Female finishers in the timed/competitive 5K and the 10K events. We also plan to draw for door prizes on race day, and will hold a photo contest for Virtual Run participants.

Race Proceeds:
Proceeds from the race will be donated to Montana Farmers Union Foundation to be used toward agricultural education programming and leadership training. If the race continues to grow and surpass our expectations we will look into making donations to local organizations as well.

Contact:
Race Directors Jeff and Katie Bangs will be happy to respond to your questions or comments. You can contact Jeff and Katie electronically using the Contact Form in the footer of any page of this website. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

We hope you will join us on race day! It's sure to be a fun and memorable event!
